Pre-Procedural Considerations

  • Alcohol & Caffeine: Avoid alcohol or caffeinated products for 24 hours before your appointment.

  • Blood Thinners: Do not take aspirin or any blood-thinning medications for at least 5 days prior to treatment.

  • Injections: No Novocaine or other facial injections should be administered within 10 days before your procedure. Please inform me of any recent injections.

  • Makeup & Skin Prep: Remove all makeup and cleanse your skin thoroughly before arrival.

  • Lips: Arrive with lips gently exfoliated for optimal results.

  • Skin Condition: The area to be treated should not be irritated, broken, or inflamed.

  • Medications: Inform your artist if you are currently using or have recently used Retin-A or any other medications that may affect the skin.

Pain Management

  • Most clients experience minimal discomfort during micropigmentation. Sensitivity varies from person to person.

  • For mental comfort, some clients take over-the-counter Tylenol 30 minutes before the appointment. This is safe and will not interfere with the procedure.

  • Any prescription pain medications should be taken as directed, usually after arrival. Please inform me of any medications you have taken.

Cold Sores / Herpes

  • If you have a history of cold sores, fever blisters, or herpes (even from childhood), consult your physician for a prescription antiviral such as Zovirax, Valtrex, or Famvir.

  • Take as directed: 2 days before, the day of, and 2 days after the procedure, and repeat for all follow-up visits.

Post-Procedural:

Lip Blush Aftercare

The aftercare is just as important as the procedure for pigment retention. Proper care ensures optimal results and reduces the need for additional touch-ups.

Healing Timeline:

  • Days 1–7: Outer layer of color may crust and flake—do not pick, scratch, or rub. This protective layer is essential for pigment retention.

  • Days 8–14: Pigment may lighten and settle; lips may feel dry. Keep them moisturized.

  • After 3 weeks: Healing is complete; touch-ups can be scheduled if needed.

General Care:

  • Apply Aquaphor (or similar) generously with a clean Q-tip. Keep lips moist at all times. Reapply as needed. Avoid petroleum or mineral oil.

  • Avoid soap, cleansers, shampoo, toothpaste, or mouthwash on lips for 7 days. Use minimal toothpaste and coat lips with ointment when brushing.

  • Avoid lipstick or makeup on or near lips for 7 days. Use a new lipstick afterward to avoid bacteria.

  • No licking lips, spicy foods, or friction (sandwiches, biting fruit) for the first 2 days. Use a straw for drinks.

  • No smoking or pool/swimming for at least 2 weeks. Minimize sun exposure.

  • Apply ice packs for 10–15 minutes each hour for the first 4–8 hours to reduce swelling.

  • Sleep on a clean satin pillowcase for the first 7 nights to avoid rubbing off pigment.

  • Avoid Retin-A or exfoliating products near lips for 30 days.

Comfort & Safety:

  • Mild pain or swelling is normal; Tylenol can be taken for relief.
